"You rush a miracle, you get rotten miracles."

It's not at all uncommon for people to ask me how long the Episcopal ordination process takes. Bare minimum, 5 years, I tell them. For me at this point, I think we're talking 8.

But who wants a rotten miracle?

Having said that, I'm going to take a little Process Sabbath. Not officially, just for myself. My rector will be on sabbatical until late September, and there are a few "have-to"s between now and then, but I think I'm going to try to just listen, and not squeeze myself into the process during that time.

I was talking to my spiritual advisor yesterday about things that energize me. I was also talking about the ways I feel squashed and unheard by the process. So, I'm thinking I'm going to try to take a little time to get my voice back, and then go from there.

I'm also going to go quiet from the blog for a little while, I think. If anything spectacular happens, I'll let you know, but I want a little time for myself. In submarine lingo, I'm going quiet.

  1. "Peace" is what my director always says. And I pass it on to you as you go quiet: Peace.

  3. Many blessings on your quiet time...and thank you so much for speaking out for Kate. I am sad that the decision was made and more so that it was never explained and kept quiet from most of the people in the ring.

  4. I hope your little 'mental retreat' (least that's what it sounds like to me) goes well for you. I understand the occasional need to take a break from things, take a step back, maybe re-evaluate things or at least see what they look like from another angle...

It's not only good to fill the tank - but actually vital.

I've learned that the hard way.

So what is it that drains your tank? You might still have to do that - (e.g. counselling) but then make sure you schedule in things that fill the tank. (for me it's going to the ballet and long walks and fun books - as opposed to ones for seminary!)

    blessings as you seek Him

"So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was."
