The Pits

You know, the really crappy thing about having a lousy, low-paying, brainless job is that when you make a mistake (which is inevitable, because we the people don't do anything perfectly), you feel like a huge moron. And if you're a temp on top of it, people often treat you like an even bigger moron.

Yes. I know we're using the new cover sheets for the TPS reports. I did get the memo. No, I don't need another copy, I have it right here. OK.

  1. I agree. Where is the respect for human dignity? A little compassion, please. I suppose these daily reminders are a blessing...we are human for now. I mean everyone, not just me.

Would some flair make you feel better? Here, have the little chapstick hanging on a keychain thingie they gave me at work today to put on my nametag as a sign of my TEAM SPIRIT! :)

I don't know what kind of business you work for, but this is one of my favorite definitions of all time:

"McJob: a low-pay, low-prestige, low-dignity, low benefit, no-future job in the service sector. Frequently considered a satisfying career choice by people who have never held one." -Douglas Coupland

  3. Well, you know what they say about people making big deals about things in inverse proportion to the actual importance of said things.

The other day I asked someone who actually does spend most of his time doing things that are really significant to a lot of people how he maintains his equilibrium, and he said that he just remembers that nothing he does is all that imporant.

I rest my case. Except to note that how poeple treat matters so much more than the cover sheets.

"So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was."
-Saint Molly Ivins
