Lonely

Liverpool can be very lonely on a Saturday night, and it's only Thursday morning.

Mr. M is wonderful, but he's just not the same as girlfriends. (Yes, GL, you are the same as girlfriends.) And I'm just aching for my girlfriends these days. It feels like a catch-22, though-- I can call, but sometimes it's sadder to chat, knowing you can't get together.

I love having people in my life of all ages. I've always thought this was wonderful, and it's still something I cherish. But since I've moved to Central PA, it's been friends of other ages to the exclusion of people in my own generation. There are a couple of exceptions-- 3 of whom have moved, and another has had 2 kids in the 3 years I've lived here.

I think seminary will be a wonderful time socially as well as academically, but I'm starting to wonder what happens afterwards. How do I keep this from happening again? I'm not sure what the solution is.

Does this mean I get invited to the sleepovers? I know exactly what you mean though, given a choice I don't think I'd make the decision to move to a completely new town w/o knowing anyone again. Of course, given that we both ended up marrying someone we would have otherwise not gotten together with I guess we can't complain. I think the answer is to actively socialize, can't just sort of sit back and wait to meet people like in college, it takes effort, which is weird, but starting to get easier. --GL

Hopefully after seminary you will have all those people as collegues and friends. That at least is my hope. But I know what you are saying. Moving is difficult. I am trying to make the decision whether or not to go to a seminary far from home or close by.

  3. Hey Girl, Randi Jo here. I miss you too! I miss you stopping by late at night just to chat. I miss watching girlie movies and drinking cheap wine. I miss walking around campus. I miss laughing with you. I just hope that you move somewhere close to Louisville so that we can see each other more often. I have enjoyed reading your posts (Mr. M gave me your blog spot address). It makes me feel like I am a little closer to you. I have started putting stuff on "MoJo Smiles". There isn't much there yet, but feel free look. I love you honey!

"So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was."
