Well, ladies and gents, tomorrow I head south for my seminary interview. It's a little funny-- I've interviewed probably hundreds of job applicants, but I'm not quite sure what to expect from this interview. (Does anyone remember what they were asked?) I suppose it will be fine, though I'm learning that some professional interviewing skills don't serve you well in a ministry-interview context.
So, prayers and warm fuzzies for me, please.

I remember that it varied a lot depending on the school. One wanted to analyze why I had done just average on the logic part of the GREs (like what's logical about this??). BTW, I was accepted but ruled it out partly because of administrative attitudes.
ReplyDeleteOther questions were about if I was going to persue a career in academics or a career in parish ministry.
One class I sat in on was teaching about Duncan Grey and the civil rights and at another school I was interviewed by the same Duncan Grey who was acting dean. (I did go there and LOVED IT)
I think it's a time to see what's a good fit. For schools students are business and don't forget that. For you it is the way that you will be formed. Do you want big city, big academics, real live liturgy 3-4 times a day, do you have family...? The schools each have a "personality" check out a few if you can.

ReplyDeleteI did get questions about where I saw myself headed. I do have some ideas but at this point in life the whole undertaking is so bizarre and extraordinary that I have largely abandoned my little illusion of control. No one seemed to mind.
Oh, that was such a blur! But, I agree with what was said about personalities. Good luck, and have fun!!
