Wednesday Prayer: Keeping Watch

This week, I'm praying for those who are grieving. Are there prayers I can offer for you as well?

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or
weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who
sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless
the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the
joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.

  1. I'm not very good about asking for prayers, but this would be a good day for it - so, yes. You could pray for me. Four years of infertility and heading into yet another Advent, with all its stories of babies long-promised, is a hard place for me. And an unexpected pregnancy announcement from a family member yesterday really threw me for a loop. So please pray that I can find it in me to be gracious to them and locate some deeply-hidden (right now) happiness for them, and that this current streak of bitterness will not overwhelm me this season.

Thank you. And I'll pray for you as well.

  2. You've got it, Shalom. This is a hard season for a lot of people. My prayers will be with you in your kind of grieving.

"So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was."
