For many, many years, my mom has given me the gift of these wise words:
"God didn't take you this far to drop you on your head."
I'm not totally convinced it's sound theology, but it is a reminder that God is always with me. As is Charlotte's wonderful liturgy (in comments).
I'm having a rough time right now, but God is loving me through a lot of people. It's pretty extraordinary. (And I'm letting them. Also extraordinary, frankly.)

"So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was."

I am so glad that you are letting those people love you. When you are in a hard spot, sometimes that is really hard to let happen. Just keep letting them...and us...lift you up.

ReplyDeleteI actually think it's pretty terrifc theology. It's we, not God, who does the dropping on heads. God has called you and will sustain you.
(doing my best Edith Ann)
"and that's the truthhhhhh..."
Love you.
