Being Lutheran, most of my recommendations skew that way. As for Luther, my two current quick-read favorites are Martin Marty's biography of Luther, and "My Conversations with Martin Luther" by Timothy Lull.
ReplyDeleteAs for the reformation in general, I've heard good things about MacCulloch's "Reformation," but I haven't read it myself. Someday...

My favorite book about past Reformations is Alister McGrath's Christianity's Dangerous Idea: The Protestant Revolution--a History from the Sixteenth Century to the Twenty-First. My favorite book about the reformation we're experiencing now is The Great Emergence: How Christianity is Changing and Why by Phyllis Tickle.
